Getting out of the kayak alone with bad knee? : Kayaking

Getting out of the kayak alone with bad knee? : Kayaking

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a kayak and am enjoying kayaking with my partner (by the way: thanks for the advice, we ended up buying single kayaks instead of a tandem!). When I’m kayaking with him, everything is fine since he helps me get out of the kayak.

The problem is that I would like to paddle alone sometimes as well. I tore my ACL and had surgery 2 months ago and have full range of motion, but I don’t fully trust the knee in a lot of squatting type positions. We did a practice run of me getting in and out of the kayak by myself today, and getting in went great, but I almost fell in the water getting out.

I’m wondering what advice you all may have for an easy way to get out without overstressing/hurting my bad knee (left knee if that matters) or falling/getting in the water (it’s nasty canal water).

This is a picture of my kayak:

This is a picture of the type of drainage thingy where I usually get in and out. I know the picture is of a waterslide, but it’s literally the same shape on the bottom but for gross storm water:
