Is it worth trying to fix hull damage that happened during shipping? : Kayaking

I ordered a Perception Rambler Tandem 13.5 (made of polyethylene) for my spouse for his birthday. They are almost impossible to find right now due to everyone trying to get outdoors. I spent WEEKS stalking manufacturer and sporting goods websites, as well as Amazon. In the end, Amazon was the only one that got a couple in stock. Since they are prioritizing essentials, I almost didn’t get it on time, and then when it did come, it had a huge dent and slit/gouge in the hull. They currently don’t have any to replace and are only offering to return and refund.

Is this worth trying to fix on our own or would the fix be temporary, and this will ultimately affect the lifespan of the boat?
